(Griswold) Late last week, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill allowing school staff to carry guns on school grounds. District #18 Iowa House Representative Tom Moore says there is a lot more to this bill than strapping a gun on every teacher’s hip.
Moore says that, first and foremost, the bill is voluntary, and it is up to the school district whether they will allow their staff to carry it.
He says the district will decide what type of gun is allowed on the staff’s person.
Representative Moore fully supports this bill. He says for years, schools were created”as “gun-“ree” zones. Moore says this has always made them vulnerable to these types of things.
For example, Moore used the shooting at the Texas church where there was the presence of active law enforcement personnel.
Tom Moore says the infrastructure bill includes a grant program for schools for training, stipends, and equipment.
