(Guthrie Co) A Panora teen suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident on April 5th.
The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says the 16-year-old female was driving a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria southbound in the 1800 block of Utopia Avenue and lost control at a high speed. The car left the roadway to the right and struck the west ditch and a tree. The vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side.
It is unknown exactly what time the collision took place, but it is believed it occurred about 45 minutes prior to law enforcement being notified. This was due to the driver being trapped in the vehicle with no means of calling for help. Eventually, the driver located her Apple watch and called her father, who then called 911.
Panora Fire and Panora EMS responded and the sole occupant was removed through non-mechanical means. Life Flight transported the driver to a hospital in Des Moines.
