(Corning) Southwest Valley School District Superintendent Chris Fenster says the district is going above and beyond the state legislature’s teacher compensation bill.
This past session, Iowa lawmakers voted to pump money into Iowa School districts to raise starting teacher salaries from $47,500.00 in the first year to $50,000.00 in year two. Under the bill, teachers with 12 years or more of experience receive a minimum wage of $60,000.00 in year one and $62,000 in year two.
Schools Superintendent Chris Fenster says the district settled with a 9.9 percent package increase for the teachers and a 12.5 percent package increase for support staff.
Chris Fenster hopes this will help in recruiting educators to the Southwest Valley School District. He says they have been without a Spanish teacher for a couple of years, there is an opening for a High School English teacher, and there is a need for a high school Special Education Teacher.
Fenster noted Southwest Valley’s salary schedule is quite favorable for prospective teachers.
