(Marne) A fire destroyed a building and its contents on Sunday afternoon north of Marne.
Marne Fire Chief Josh Krause tells KSOM/KS95 News the call went out at 12:29 p.m. at 50391 560th Street, just north of Interstate 80.
When they arrived, Krause said they found the structure fully engulfed in heavy black smoke. “At that point, we realized we would need some help, so we called in Atlantic, Avoca, Elk Horn, Kimballton, Harlan, and Walnut,” said Krause. The structure was an insulated shop owned by a local farmer. Its contents included chemicals, seeds, tools, vehicles, and an office.
“The building and its contents are a total loss,” said Krause. The cause of the fire is accidental. They were burning some trash next to the building. The fire spread, starting some pallets on fire and spread into the building.
No one was injured in the blaze.
