(Iowa City, IA) – The University of Iowa’s women’s track and field team has started to see some top turnouts early in the outdoor season. Mariel Bruxvoort has been named the Big Ten Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, just the second time this season that she has been given the honor.
Bruxvoort was part of the women’s 4×400-meter relay that broke the program record and won the 400-meter hurdles in 57.68 seconds. Her 400-meter hurdle time was just a few seconds shy of breaking the school record. The relay team earned a 3:37.92 record-setting time as they are now second-best in the 4×400 relay teams in the Big Ten. The Grand Rapids native leads the conference in the 400-meter hurdles with her time.
Iowa will jump back out to the track on Thursday and Friday with the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Beach Invitational.
