(Underwood) Underwood topped the field in a tight team race at the Ken Carsten Relays in Harlan on Tuesday. Underwood won the team title with 104 points, Atlantic finished second with 98.5, Harlan third with 96, and Woodbine fourth, scoring 95.
Matthew Sorfenden of Harlan swept the sprints. The senior ran 11.18 in the 100 and 23.22 in the 200. Tayden Hull of Underwood won the 400 meters in 53.82, and Alex Sonntag of Atlantic cruised to a victory in the 800 meters in 2:08.03. Woodbine finished one-two in the 1600 meters. Landon Bendgen ran 4:32.19, and Gunner Wagner finished second in 4:46.69. Wagner earned a first-place spot in the 3200 meters in 10:11.38. Brandon Bowen of Council Bluffs, Thomas Jefferson won both hurdle races. The senior went 15.66 in the 100 Hurdles and 56.44 in the 400 Hurdles.
Treynor and Atlantic finished one-two in the 4×100 meter relay, Harlan won the 4×200, and Underwood topped the field in the 4×400 and Shuttle Hurdle Relays. Atlantic ran away from the field in the 4×800. Lewis Central won the Sprint Medley, and Woodbine finished first in the Distance Medley Relay.
In the field events, Mason Boothby of Underwood leaped 22-05.50 for the win in the Long Jump. Brehden Eggerss of Harlan sailed 22-01.50 for second. Colton Rasmussen of Atlantic cleared 6-01.00 to win the High Jump, and Maxwell Tiarks of Underwood won the throws. The senior threw 167-05 in the discus, and 51-09.00 in the Shot Put. Gavin McLaren of Atlantic finished second with a throw of 45-10.00.
