(Griswold, IA) – The Griswold Tigers girl’s track team was able to take away a win last Thursday with a total of 131 points. This success came from the individual events that included the throwing, sprinting, and hurdling events that really helped Griswold achieve that success. Addison Adams finished first in the 400-meter hurdles while the 4×800-meter relay also earned first place overall. Head Coach Rachel Larsen utilized every girl in the meet to help achieve that outstanding success.
The strategy that Coach Larsen has been taking is to rely on the girls who can bring top finishes along the way in the individual events while focusing on the relays afterward.
A few athletes have already stepped up in a few events so far, including Amanda Houser, Marissa Askeland, and Josie Millikan. Houser finished in fourth in the 100-meter dash, Askeland finished second in the 800-meter run, and Millikan finished fifth in the 1500-meter run in their last meet.
Coach Larsen utilizes her small squad in multiple events throughout the meet. It will be a bit difficult to utilize her athletes in every event this season when it comes to not having some co-ed meets because it doesn’t allow for the girls to fully recover when moving on to the next event.
Griswold will jump onto the track today when they host the Griswold Relays in a girls-only meet. This will be a meet that Griswold will mentally push themselves to finish to the best of their ability and recover quickly to get right back out to do it again.
The Tigers host today’s meet against Riverside, AHSTW, Woodbine, and Red Oak. The start time is set for 4:30 p.m. and you’ll be able to catch all the coverage right on Western Iowa Today with interviews from some of your local athletes.
