(Iowa City, IA) – The leading scorer for Iowa this season, Payton Sandfort, has announced that he will be entering the 2024 NBA Draft.
Sandfort was one of not only the best shooters for the Hawkeyes but in the Big Ten. He led the league in three-point field goals with 94 and shot 44.6% from the field. His shooting from three-point range was where he saw a lot of success as the third-best in the Big Ten. The junior averaged 16.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists this season.
The Waukee, Iowa native stated, “It has been a dream come true to represent this program and my state the past three seasons as a Hawkeye. Every day I pushed myself to make our team as successful as possible. I have loved every second of being a Hawkeye. It has been my lifelong dream to get the opportunity to play in the NBA. I plan to enter my name into the 2024 NBA Draft while maintaining my eligibility. I will continue to push myself every day to make this dream a reality. I appreciate the support from Hawkeye nation as I go through this process.”
While listed as an underclassman, he will have a chance to maintain his college eligibility as underclassmen have until May 29th to remain in or remove their names from the draft.
