(San Antonio, TX) – Iowa Western Shotgun Sports has taken home their third straight National title after a dominant five-day performance in San Antonio. The Reivers finished at the top of the ACUI Division IV standings and beat second-place Iowa Central by 43 points to win with a score of 2,788.
On the women’s side, freshman Abby Johnson was Iowa Western’s individual National Champion, defeating Janice Tejada who was the runner-up. Sara Carr ended the week with a fourth-place finish behind both Johnson and Tejada in the Women’s Class B Trap as the Reivers out-shot athletes from Texas A&M, Clemson, Wichita State, and multiple Division I universities. Kelly Holt earned a second-place finish in the Women’s Class C Skeet and third in the Class C Double Trap and Class C Double Skeet. Payton Krause finished out the placing with a second-place finish in the Class C Double Trap.
For the men’s team, Mason Gerdes earned third place in the Men’s Class B Double Trap while Tyler Uhri finished in third in the Class C Double Trap. These two helped push Iowa Western in three of the six disciplines as they scored 91 or more in those events.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these athletes,” said Head Coach Derek Pollock. “It has been amazing to watch this young team’s growth and see them come through all of the challenges they face throughout the season. Any time I can watch my athletes reach their goals, it keeps me driving for the next year.”
Iowa Western as a whole finished 14th out of 106 two-year and four-year colleges. They also finished just behind Lindenwood University who was at the top of the standings with a score of 2919, a total of 131 points to be exact.
