(Iowa City, IA) – Iowa’s men’s basketball team featured freshman Owen Freeman as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year but also had quite a few other honors for a few Hawkeyes. Tony Perkins was named second-team All-Big Ten, Payton Sandfort was named third-team All-Big Ten, and both Josh Dix and Ben Krikke were named honorable All-Conference players.
Tony Perkins has averaged 14.5 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.7 assists per game this season. The Indiana native was just one of seven players in the country to put down 450+ points, 140+ assists, 130+ rebounds, and 50+ steals. Payton Sandfort has continued to lead the Hawkeyes this season in scoring with 16.2 points and in rebounds with 6.5 rebounds per game this season. The third-team selection recorded the first triple-double in Iowa history with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists against Penn State. Council Bluffs native Josh Dix earned honorable mention honors, averaging 8.9 points per game while shooting over 50% from the field. Former Valpo Beacon, Ben Krikke, averaged 13.5 points and 4.7 boards this season for the Hawkeyes.
Iowa will dive into the Big Ten Conference Tournament tomorrow as the #7 seed. They’ll face off against the #10-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes at 5:30 p.m.
