(Shelby Co) A Shelby County Deputy was injured in an accident during a pursuit this (Friday) morning.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says at approximately 11:23 a.m. the Shelby County Communications Center was contacted by the Harrison County Communications Center regarding subjects trying to pass a fraudulent check at a bank in Missouri Valley. The same subjects tried to pass a fraudulent check in Washington County, Nebraska. The Communications Center was informed that the Washington County Sheriff’s Office would have felony charges on the suspects. The suspect vehicle was being followed by a bank employee into Shelby County.
Shelby County Deputies located the vehicle and attempted to stop it north of Portsmouth on Highway 191. The vehicle briefly stopped and an occupant exited and the vehicle drove away, initiating a pursuit. Deputies from Shelby County, Harrison County, and the Iowa State Patrol were involved in the pursuit.
During the pursuit, two Shelby County Deputies lost control of their patrol cars at the intersection of Cedar Road and Street F32. Both patrol cars left the roadway, entering the south ditch and coming to rest. One vehicle sustained minor damage and the Deputy was not injured. The second patrol vehicle sustained major damage and the Deputy was transported to Myrtue Memorial Hospital by the Shelby County Ambulance Service. The Deputy will be okay and is recovering at home.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene of the accident by the Iowa State Patrol, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County Ambulance, Panama Fire and Rescue, Earling Fire and Rescue, Harlan Fire and Rescue, Shelby County EMA, and 712 Towing.
The suspects were again located by the Iowa State Patrol near Highway 30 and Highway 44. A second pursuit was initiated and ended near Beebeetown. Two suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Harrison County Jail. The subject who exited the vehicle near Portsmouth was taken into custody by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Shelby County Jail.
