(Greenfield) Iowa House District #23 Representative Ray Sorensen from Greenfield says this week; they passed House File 2183 to support our firefighters and first responders.
Sorensen says this bill expands the definition of cancer for the Municipal Fire and Police Retirement System and the Special Services Members of IPERS. He says the current code outlines which types of cancers are covered for disabilities and death benefits. In listing the certain cancers that are covered, the code inevitably leaves out additional cancers that should certainly be covered.
Representative Sorensen says Firefighters and family members who have lost friends, coworkers, and loved ones to cancers that are not covered by the current code were in attendance to support the passage of this bill. Sorensen says these people have our backs daily as they risk their lives and go to work. With this bill, we do what we can to return the favor and have their backs.
