(Evanston, IL) – In an eye-catching victory, the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated Northwestern for the Wildcats’ first home conference loss of the season. With Iowa’s 87-80 victory, the Hawkeyes improve to 18-12 on the season and 10-9 in Big Ten action.
Leading on the night for Iowa was Josh Dix who shot an impressive 9-13 from the field while putting in 24 points and also dishing out three assists. Behind Dix was Payton Sandfort who had 23 points, six assists, and five rebounds on the night and shot 50% from the field. Ben Krikke also got in with the top scorers on the night with 12 points and also swiped away a game-high two steals. The last double-digit scorer was Tony Perkins who had a double-double on the night with 10 points and also had 14 assists for the Hawkeyes.
On the scoresheet for the Wildcats, Boo Buie had 27 points, seven assists, and also had four rebounds on the night. Brooks Barnhizer had 20 points while also hauling in six rebounds and whipping out three assists. Right behind Barnhizer was Nick Martinelli who shot 6-13 for 17 points and had a steal. Last but not least was Blake Smith who went 4-4 from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe for a total of 11 points.
Iowa has won four of their last five games as they now sit at 10-9 in Big Ten action. The Hawkeyes shot 55% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc against Northwestern.
The Hawkeyes now have about a whole week off until they hit the hardwood at Carer-Hawkeye arena on March 10th when they battle Illinois at 6:00 p.m.
