(Des Moines) Making swatting calls would be a felony under a bill unanimously passed by the Iowa Senate yesterday. Swatting is a false call to 9-1-1 attempting to send a heavy police presence to a certain address. The Iowa Department of Public Safety says the number of such calls has risen from four in 2021 to 39 in the 2022-2023 school year. If signed into law, it would make swatting punishable by up to five years in prison and up to a decade if someone gets hurt.
