(Des Moines) An Iowa agency refused to hand over records for an audit for the first time since a bill restricting the powers of the State Auditor’s Office became law. The Iowa Board of Parole says the proper paperwork wasn’t filed, but State Auditor Rob Sand disagrees. Passed by the Iowa Legislature last year, the new law lets state agencies deny the state auditor’s office access to certain information and stops the office from making appeals in court. It comes as another bill is moving through the state legislature that would let departments hire certified public accountants, or CPAs, to complete audits instead of the state auditor.
