(Griswold) A Grand Opening Ceremony was held for the Lakin Foundation Child Development Center of Griswold on Saturday.
Noble Center United Methodist Church made a painful decision in 2018 to disband and close the church. Their vision was to commit over $60,000 to address the community’s greatest needs; childcare.
The ceremony recognized the many individuals and organizations who had contributed their efforts and/or funds to make this vision a reality. One of those organizations recognized was the Charles E Lakin Foundation. Their $500,000 donation helped push the project to the finish line.
Debbie Johnson is a Member of the Board of Directors and Grant Committee Chair of the Charles E Lakin Foundation and daughter of Charles and Florence Lakin.
The communities support and involvement in this project was echoed by all who spoke at the ceremony.
Matt Leighton is President of the Noble Initiative Foundation.
Chelsea Dvorak, Director of the Lakin Foundation Child Development Center, said her top priority is providing quality childcare for families in the community.
It was also announced on Saturday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development is awarding a $1,000,000 grant to the Lakin Foundation Child Development Center of Griswold. The grant was made through the USDA Rural development Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant program and was congressionally designated spending.
