(College Park, MD) – Clark takes command of the ship once again after the Hawkeyes defeated Maryland 93-85. This win marked the first for Iowa in Maryland since the 1992-93 season.
Caitlin Clark led the Hawkeyes with 38 points on the night while she dished out 12 assists, and snagged six boards. Clark is now just 66 points away from tying the NCAA scoring record that is held by Kelsey Plum with a total of 3,537 points. Caitlin Clark now has 57 games this season of scoring 25+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds for an NCAA best. She also leads both men’s and women’s basketball in 30+ point games in her career with a total of 51.
Molly Davis also was able to knock down bucket after bucket tonight as she went 7-11 from the field for 17 points and snatched four rebounds. Kate Martin had another successful night with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Martin has now scored 15+ points in 11 games this year, as she continues to increase her career-best. Finishing off scoring on the night was Hannah Stuelke as she was just short of a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
On the other side, Maryland featured two players with 20+ points on the night Jakia Brown-Turner and Bri McDaniel. Brown-Turner had 25 points while she also hauled in nine boards, shot 9-14 from the field, and had a block on the night. McDaniel also had 22 points while going 8-14 from the field and dishing out four assists. Shyanne Sellers went 5-12 from the field while putting down 14 points, snagging seven rebounds, and dishing out eight assists. Brinae Alexander went 4-13 from beyond the arc while putting down 12 points to finish off the night.
Iowa now has a 16-4 record in their last 20 road games played overall, but Maryland still leads the series 11-7 overall. Iowa is now 36-4 in Big Ten Conference games since last year in February of 2023. Head Coach Lisa Bluder has eight straight 20-win seasons which is the longest streak of her career, behind Vivian Stringer with 10 consecutive 20+ win seasons from 1984-94.
The Hawkeyes outscored the Terrapins in the paint 44-34 while also outscoring Maryland in second-chance points 17-7. Both teams shot 42% from the field while Iowa had a minor advantage from the three-point marker at 36.4% while Maryland shot 32% from beyond the arc.
Iowa will return back to action on Thursday, February 8th when they take on Penn State at 8:00 p.m.
