(Lincoln, NE) – The Nebraska Huskers gave the Scarlet Knights their first Big Ten win of the season after Rutgers beat the Cornhuskers 71-70. Rutgers now leads the series 8-5 between the two.
For Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights were led by Kassondra Brown with 21 points while going 7-9 from the field and hauled in five rebounds. Destiny Adams hauled in six boards while putting down 11 points and dished out three assists. Antonia Bates, Cyna Cornwell, and Jillian Huerter all had seven points on the afternoon while Cornwell and Huerter combined for 15 rebounds. The Scarlet Knights shot a conference-best 59.6% from the field and shot 46.7% from beyond the arc.
Jumping to the Huskers, they were led by Alexia Markowski with 13 points and she also snagged five rebounds. Jaz Shelley was just right behind her with 11 points and hauled in five rebounds while going 4-4 from the free-throw line. Jessica Petrie had nine points while she also went 4-7 from the hardwood. Both Kendall Moriarty and Logan Nissley each had eight points on the afternoon.
The last time that these two teams faced off, Nebraska had one of the worst shooting performances in 2023. That trend continued as they shot just 33.8% from the field while going 26.9% from the three-point marker. They did, however, shoot 85% from the free-throw line versus Rutgers as they shot just 66.7% from the charity stripe.
Nebraska led in points off turnovers 25-8, second chance points 15-4, and fast breaks 10-3. Rutgers led in points in the paint 34-28 and in bench points 34-30.
The Huskers will head to Michigan for their next game on Tuesday, February 6th at 6:00 p.m.
