(Atlantic, IA) – The weather outside has been frightful, but thankfully we have S.W.A.T. Valkyrie wrestling to make it feel a little more delightful. Despite not being able to wrestle competitively since the S.W.A.T. Duals Tournament on January 5th due to the cancellation of their Triangular on Thursday night, these girls are ready to hit the mats. With just a little bit of time before the Valkyrie Invitational, Head Coach Tiffany South is hoping that other teams are in the same position that they are.
This S.W.A.T. team has some of the state’s top talent this season, including state-ranked Grace Britten who is currently 34-1 on the season. She is followed up by three other excellent wrestlers including Jazz Christensen (32-5), Ellen Gerlock (22-8), and Haley Armstrong (28-7) among many more.
S.W.A.T. is a different type of wrestling team when compared to others. This girl’s team is special, they are constantly having fun with one another and are always cheering one another on in every single thing that they do. This is particularly shown when looking at tournaments and duals when the girls are so well-known for their support, that even officials know that the cheering will be the loudest from the S.W.A.T. Valkyrie corner.
The thing about this girl’s team is that they have a toolbox of moves to be successful down the line. They may have one move that makes them successful, but these girls are both smart and athletic. With one wrong move, they’ll take you down.
On Saturday, the S.W.A.T. Valkyries will be hosting the Valkyrie Invitational in Atlantic, which starts at 10:00 a.m. alongside a silent pie auction that will take place in the commons room. Each wrestler has chosen a pie that will be auctioned off which will help to fund the girls to go to both the Regionals and State Tournaments. If you are unable to make it to the invitational, they have you covered on their S.W.A.T. page or via text or phone call at 712-249-9108. To find more information, please click here!
