(Oakland, IA) – The Riverside Bulldogs were dealt a difficult challenge on Tuesday as they had to take on a #7 Underwood team. While the Bulldogs lost 79-61, they held through three quarters in the game. Regardless of the loss, Head Coach Nick Kroon was proud of how his boys played on the night as they showed a ton of offensive grit.
This season, Riverside has not done well in the rebounding game as they’re averaging just 21 rebounds per game as they were outrebounded 34-13 in the game against the Eagles. The struggle comes down to the defense not being able to stop these high-caliber offenses this season. Teams have been averaging 59.4 points per game and shooting 40% from the field this season when taking on the Bulldogs.
While both Grady Jeppesen and Mason McCreedy have been leading the team in scoring, they are followed by three freshmen on the varsity squad. Peyton Amdor has averaged 5.9 points per game, Owen Fenner is shooting 50% from the field while putting in 5.2 points per game, and Cole Jeppesen continues to lead the team in assists with 3.5 per game. These three show that this Riverside team can compete, and will be a force to reckon with in the future.
On Friday, the Bulldogs will be taking on the Missouri Valley Big Reds, a team they formally battled against earlier this season as they won 66-61. The Big Reds are led by Dane Jensen and Brody Lager who are both averaging just above 18 points per game this season.
Riverside will host Missouri Valley in a Western Iowa Conference matchup on Friday, with a tipoff following the girl’s game at 7:30 p.m.
