(Iowa City, IA) – The University of Iowa has named Beth Goetz as the next Athletic Director after serving in the role as an interim since August 2nd. Goetz’s official appointment will still need to be approved by the Iowa Board of Regents.
Goetz will become the 13th Athletics Director in Iowa history after joining in September of 2022 as the Deputy Director of athletics. She formally served as the Director of Athletics at Ball State where she supervised 19 Division I teams, head coaches, and staff. In 2018, she was named as the vice chair of NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee for 2021-22. During that time, she was also named the 2022 NCAA Division I FBS Nike Executive of the Year by the Indianapolis Business Journal. Goetz also was a soccer student-athlete and a college coach while graduating from Clemson University in 1996 and earned her Master’s degree from the University of Missouri St. Louis in 2000.
The University originally had a national search at the end of November but realized that the best person for the job was already at the helm. Iowa coaches had nothing but positive things to say about the appointment of their new Athletics Director. Football Head Coach Kirk Ferentz talked about the extraordinary vision that Goetz has for Iowa saying, “Since arriving at the University of Iowa, Beth has shown tremendous dedication to the University and a passion for our student-athletes. Beth is highly professional, and I believe is well-equipped to navigate this new era of collegiate sports.”
Beth Goetz will officially begin immediately in the role that she has been in since August.
