(Ames, IA) – The Iowa State women’s basketball team continues to shock the nation after they beat #24 West Virginia on Wednesday and now #4 Baylor in back-to-back upsets. Iowa State held Baylor to just 39.7% from the field in their 66-63 win as they came back after a 24-11 deficit to end the first quarter.
Leading Iowa State on the night was once again freshman Audi Crooks as she knocked down 23 points, owning the hardwood all afternoon over Baylor. The Iowa native also pulled in six rebounds to mark her second-straight 20+ point effort. Hanah Belanger went 5-8 from the field while putting down 15 points on the night. Behind Belanger was Addy Brown who finished just shy of another double-double as she grabbed 11 boards and put down nine points on the afternoon. Brown also had a total of six steals in the game, which marked a career-high for the freshman. Emily Ryan also got in on the nine-point action as she also dished out four assists for the Cyclones.
For #4 Baylor, Dre’una Edwards led the Bears in scoring with 19 points and seven rebounds while she also swiped away two steals. Jada Walker sat right behind her with 14 points as she went a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe and also whipped out six assists. Darianna Littlepage-Buggs didn’t score double-digits but was able to put down eight points and grab eight boards.
Even with the snowy conditions on Saturday, fans piled into Hilton Coliseum to watch the Cyclones knock off the Bears for their first win over a ranked opponent since knocking off Baylor back in 2020. Who could’ve thought how that would’ve played out the same way on Saturday? This is the first time since the 2009-10 season that Iowa State had back-to-back wins over ranked opponents.
Iowa State shot 45.5% from the field while also going 35.3% from the perimeter while Baylor went just 26.7% from beyond the arc. The Cyclones also won in the paint game as they outscored the Bears 36-24.
The Cyclones get back on the hardwood this Wednesday when they take on Texas Tech on the road at 6:00 p.m.
