(Lincoln, NE)- Big 10 Conference duals open up on Friday night with a ranked showdown between Midwest rivals of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Nebraska Huskers. It’d be a top-ranked showdown as both teams are ranked within the top ten in the county, as Iowa sits at number three and Nebraska at number six. The Hawkeyes would defeat the Huskers 22-10 for the first conference win of the season. It would be a close one through the intermission as a short lead was held by Iowa 9-6 after back-and-forth wins by each squad including the first upset of the night as Nebraska’s unranked Jacob Van Dee defeated Iowa’s No. 7 Brody Teske with a 10-4 decision at 133 lbs. The first half of the night would be decided by a close 5-4 decision from the Hawkeyes’ No. 2 Jared Franek over the Huskers’ No. 3 Peyton Robb at 157 lbs. From then on out it would be a controlling win for Iowa as they won four of the five matches in the second half of the night, including the lone bonus point victory from No. 16 Zach Glazier with a major decision upset over reigning Big 10 Champion No. 11 Silas Allred of Nebraska, 11-2, to remain undefeated on the season. The all-time record between the two rivals moves to 36-10 in favor of Iowa. The Hawkeyes return to action on Monday, January 15th against No. 10 Minnesota in Iowa City at 7 pm. The Huskers step on the mat again on January 19th against similar opponent No. 10 Minnesota in Minneapolis at 9 pm.
