Janis Imhoff, age 74, of Atlantic, IA, died on Friday, December 15, 2023, at her home with family at her side. She was born on March 17, 1949, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Carrol and Juanita (Morrow) Matthews. She was welcomed home by her older brother, Bob. She grew up in Diagonal, Iowa, and graduated from the Diagonal Community Schools in 1967.
In 1970, she was united in marriage to Eldon Ambrose, and a son, Christopher, was born. The couple would later divorce. Later, she would move to Atlantic, Iowa, where she held various positions. She drove a dump truck for the Henningsen Construction Company and then worked at Taco Del Sol for a time. On April 20th, 1991, she was united in marriage to Robert Imhoff. Janis began driving a school bus for the Atlantic Community Schools for over 17 years until her retirement. This was her most rewarding job, transporting little kids.
Janis enjoyed her retirement, planting flowers, and playing with her cats. She loved spending time with her family and close friends. She was quite a gentle soul and was kind and accepting of everyone she came in contact with. She had a sense of humor about life and the world around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Dusty Nicole Dodson; a brother, Robert Matthews, and a stepson, Timothy Imhoff in 2008.
Janis is survived by her husband, Robert of Atlantic; son, Chris (Tina) Ambrose of Diagonal, IA; stepsons, Donald and Rob Imhoff; stepdaughter, Lisa Clark-Hansen of Atlantic; along with numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, with Rev. Garry DeGeest officiating and burial in the Atlantic Cemetery. Visitation with the family gathered will be from 9 am till the time of services on Monday, December 18th. A reception will also be held following the committal service in the Schmidt Family Funeral Home Community Room.
