(Lewis) Hunters are reminded they can drop off their deer hides at several locations in Cass County, as the second shotgun deer season starts today and runs through December 17.
Bryan Hayes with the DNR Office in Lewis reminds hunters they can donate deer hides locally to the Atlantic Elk Lodge and Elks lodges across Iowa.
The drop-offs in Cass County include the Atlantic Elks Lodge, behind the Griswold Fire Station and in front of the Wiota Fire Station. Hayes says the Veterans Leather Program has numerous uses for veterans, including professionally crafted leather gloves for veterans in wheelchairs and therapy programs.
Last year, hunters donated more than 4,500 deer hides, nearly 600 more than the 2022 season.
