(Des Moines) A group is suing over Iowa’s law related to sexual content in books in schools. The A-C-L-U and Lambda Legal are trying to block provisions of the law and ultimately have the law declared unconstitutional. The lawsuit is being brought on behalf of an LGBTQ non-profit organization.
Meanwhile, for the 2024 legislative session, the Iowa Library Association’s main priority is to give Iowans access to read any book they want.
There have been several bills that restrict books containing sexually explicit activity in school libraries and some public libraries. The ILA will try to oppose any bills that will limit Iowans’ freedom to read these books.
