(Guthrie Center) Last week the Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center School Boards announced the hiring of Dennis McClain as the new shared Superintendent.
Dennis McClain, who is the current Superintendent and Elementary Principal at Clay Central-Everly is excited about the opportunity given to him and his family. He says he’s looking forward to getting started.“We’re excited especially after going through the interview process,” said McClain. “It’s a great district and I am happy to get started there this summer.”
McClain says the Clay Central-Everly School District is made up of five towns and two buildings in two different towns, which has allowed him to get out and get involved in those communities.
“I think they (Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center School Boards) were looking for someone who was willing to get out and be involved in the community,” said McClain. “I would like to start some collaboration between community groups, the businesses and the school district.”
McClain says he likes to visit the classroom and maintain an open door policy for all of the teaching staff.
McClain has already begun communicating with retiring Superintendent Steve Smith in regards to things going on within the district.
Dennis McLain earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education and health from Buena Vista College in 1995. He earned his Master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Jones International University in 2007 and his Advanced Studies Certificate in superintendence from UNI in 2013. Dennis is currently working on his doctorate degree at UNI in educational leadership.
Dennis and his wife Donna have three children: Benjamin is a freshman at Iowa State, EmmaKay is a sophomore, and Jarrett is a 7th grader.
Dennis McClain will begin his duties on July 1, 2019.
