(Area) — It’s full steam ahead for the Christmas shopping season, which has caught the eye of con artists.
Experts say there has been an increase in scams that come through text messages. Devin Benavides with the Better Business Bureau of Texas says that other text messages claim to be the post office. They say your package is delayed and ask for personal information.
Benavides says to ignore those texts and block them. Replying lets the scammer know that the number is active, which means you’ll get more of these messages.
The Better Business Bureau also warns people to be aware of misleading social media ads, fake charities, and anyone offering free gift cards.
