Lyle was born in Anita, IA October 24, 1946 to Maurice & Lilian (Mary) Karns Shannon. Lyle was the seventh child of ten children. He grew up hunting & trapping & loved a rousing game of Pinochle with his family.
On January 28,1967, he married Marcia (Kintigh). To this union were two daughters Krista Kay and Renee Ann.
July 1967, Lyle was drafted into the United States Army. After completing boot camp he was deployed to Vietnam. While in service, Lyle received a Bronze Star with V Device, a Bronze Star, a Silver Star and an Air Medal. In July 1968, Lyle was honorably discharged.
Lyle worked at Gate City Steel for 28 yrs and then worked at Wheeler Trucking, Wynne Trucking, Cargil and Elliot Equipment. He was also a member of VFW Post 2503 and the NRA. Lyle and Marcia moved to Washington, NE in 1999 where he took on a love of gardening. He was especially proud of his Black Diamond Watermelons which he loved to share with family and friends.
Lyle is proceeded in death by parents Maurice & Mary, brothers Wayne & Gail, sister & brother-in-law Mary and Harold Wahlert, brother-in-laws Roger Sandhorst and Bob Scarff. Lyle is survived by his wife of 56 years Marcia, daughters Krista Lowe (husband Eric ), Renee Kallhoff (husband Mark),brothers and sister-in-laws, Jack (Donna), Clark, Rellen (Phyllis), sister & brother-in-law Maurine (Dwight) Gard, Ada Scarff, Sharon Sandhorst. Brother-in-law & sister-in-law Jim & Linda Kintigh.
Seven grandchildren Nichole Nelson (husband Brett ) Samantha Meyo, Ashleigh Mockelman (husband Ron) Brandon Abels (wife Shelby), Ryan Lowe, Sydney Lowe, Shelbie Schweigart and seven great-grandchildren Kynnedy, Addisyn, Johnny, Paxton, Leonard, Julane and Josie.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:30pm. Friday November 24th at Zion Lutheran Church (142 & Ida Street). Visitation will be from 11:30am – 12:30pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Omaha National Cemetery. Memorials suggested to the family for a later designation.
