(Omaha, NE) – The Iowa Hawkeyes have been issued their first loss of the season after they fell to Creighton on Tuesday 92-84. Iowa shot 50% from the field and went 43% from the arc in their loss.
The Hawkeyes were led by Ben Krikke with 24 points and five rebounds in his first 20-point game as a Hawkeye. Tony Perkins was right behind him with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists and steals. Payton Sandfort and Patrick McCaffery were right behind Perkins as McCaffery earned 13 points, three assists, and two steals while adding a couple of blocks. Sandfort scored 11 points while also knocking down two three-pointers. Ladji Dembele and Owen Freeman also added eight points in the game. Trey Alexander was just short of a triple-double for Creighton with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. Baylor Scheierman was behind Alexander in scoring with 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Creighton made all ten field goals to start of the second half which helped them pull away to start off early. This is now just the 17th loss under Fran McCaffery when his Hawkeyes are shooting 50% or better on the floor. The Hawkeyes make the trip across Iowa as they host Arkansas State this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
