(Ames, IA) – The Iowa State women’s basketball team will look even more different than what was first expected. The Cyclones are losing one of their returning point guards Emily Ryan.
Iowa State announced that Ryan will be out due to a health-related issue and is “working hard to get back on the court with her teammates.” The Cyclone senior averaged 10.6 points per game, 6.4 assists, and 5.4 rebounds in her junior season. The Kansas native was one of the few returning keys for the Cyclones this season after losing Ashley Joens and Stephanie Soares.
Reporters asked Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly if we could expect to see Ryan return this season. He said, “We will let the medical staff deal with it. I’d like that she’s making progress, but that’s all I can probably talk about with that.”
Iowa State will be limited in their experienced players this season. They are bringing on five freshmen including Kelsey Joens and Audi Crooks to the team this season and will need to rally around the freshmen to see success down the line.
The Cyclones begin the regular season tomorrow against Butler at home with an 11:00 a.m. tipoff.
