Atlantic’s 14th-ranked Claire Pellett came out to race today for the Trojans—the senior finished 12th with a 19:16.8. Pellett ended her cross-country career as a three-time state qualifier and two-time All-State performer. The senior had this to say following her race on Saturday.
Not only did she race through the cold, she was able to go out and earn one of her best times all season. Tom Robinson was in Fort Dodge to speak with head coach Dan Vargason about Pellett’s success in Fort Dodge and throughout her career.
Head coach Dan Vargason is proud of his athletes as they have been able to go all the way to Fort Dodge and compete. He is looking ahead as he wants many younger athletes to come out next season and start training immediately while being involved in other sports.
The other local finishers include second-place finisher Lindsey Sonderman of Harlan. Sonderman came into the meet being the top-ranked runner in the state and only fell behind by less than six seconds as she finished at 18:42.1. The junior will have another shot to take that title next year, but an impressive feat regardless. Harlan also featured Brylee Schechinger in 70th at 20:33.5, Allie Anderson in 83rd at 20:48.3, and Brylee’s sister Emily in 124th at 22:02.8.
