(Guthrie Center) ACGC heads to the second round of the playoffs tonight following a 34-18 win over Mt. Ayr in a round one Class A playoff game last week. The Chargers host Lynnville-Sully, a team that lost in the semi-finals one year ago.
ACGC Head Coach Cody Matthewson says practices have been slightly different this week. Like most teams this time of year, the Chargers are dealing with players with some bumps and bruises, so preparing players in backup roles in the lineup has been one point of emphasis.
This game matches two teams with excellent ground games. The Chargers have rushed for 3,374 yards, Lynnville-Sully, 1,715.
Coach Matthewson says they look forward to playing at home in front of their fans and keeping the same routine. He spoke about turnovers as one big key in deciding these types of games. The Hawks have forced 29 turnovers this season, 18 interceptions, and 11 fumble recoveries. ACGC has forced 21 turnovers, 11 interceptions, and ten fumble recoveries.
The Hawks might have a slight advantage in the kicking game. Lucas Sieck has made 2/4 field goals, his longest 36 yards. He has also made 15/22 extra points and averages 36 yards per punt.
While Oliver Wetzel has not attempted a field goal for the Chargers, he is 39/42 in PATS. ACGC has punted just 18 times this season. Treyton Schneider averages 31 yards per punt, and Mike Fuller 23.7.
