(Guthrie Center, IA) – The ACGC Chargers move on in playoff action after they beat Mount Ayr 34-18. ACGC had a shaky start but got back on track in the second quarter and continued to ride on that success all game long.
Mount Ayr got off to a hot start in the game as the Raiders scored on their opening drive with a touchdown rush by Tyler Martin to put them up 6-0 after they couldn’t convert on the two-point conversion. ACGC was able to come back and take the lead 7-6 after Jathan South rushed on a long yardage gain to score for ACGC to go on top, but it didn’t last for long. The Raiders jumped back on the leaderboard as they jumped up on the scoreboard again after Jackson Ruggles broke away for a 76-yard touchdown and put up the Raiders 12-7 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Chargers started to get back in the name of things. ACGC went back to the rushing game as they moved at a slow and steady pace, but ended up getting a touchdown with Anthony Solorzano rushing in for the score for a two-yard touchdown to put them up once again 14-12. The Chargers didn’t stop there as they rushed downfield once again as Mike Fuller continued to utilize every opportunity with multiple rushes downfield that eventually led to a two-yard touchdown. Not only did it put the Chargers ahead at halftime, but the Chargers continued to maintain that lead throughout the remainder of the game.
After halftime, ACGC continued going down the line adding on two more touchdowns in the third quarter. Anthony Solorzano rushed with the short gain and used it in the third quarter as he rushed into the endzone for a one-yard touchdown. That put the Chargers up 27-12 in the third quarter but scored once again to add even further to the scoreboard. ACGC utilized the legs of Jathan South after multiple chunk plays as they charged downfield and added another score to put them up 34-12.
The fourth quarter saw nothing on the side of the field for ACGC, but the quarter saw the utilization of Mount Ayr’s throwing game late. With just under a minute remaining, Jackson Ruggles looked downfield to Trevin Victor and threw for a touchdown to add on Victor’s first touchdown of the season and a good way to end a loss and a playoff run for the Raiders.
For the Chargers, Jathan South rushed for 109 yards and earned two touchdowns. Anthony Solorzano rushed for 114 total yards and also earned two touchdowns in the game to add to the board. Mike Fuller also helped in the rushing game on eight carries for 46 yards and two touchdowns in the Chargers’ win over Mount Ayr.
The Raiders were led by Jackson Ruggles with 113 passing yards on six completions and rushed for 65 yards and earned another touchdown. Tyler Martin rushed for 75 yards on eight carries and also earned a touchdown for Mount Ayr. The Raiders end their season 4-5 overall.
ACGC will move on to the next round of the playoffs as they will find out today what team they will be facing off against on Friday night.
