(Guthrie Center, IA) – ACGC has ended their regular season 8-0 overall the Chargers are looking to jump into the postseason with their last win coming over Southwest Valley 41-0. With such a huge accomplishment this season, head coach Cody Matthewson has been more than proud of his athletes and their ability to reach a goal that this Chargers era has never seen before. Their focus now is on the second season as they are resetting their minds and are looking to start back from square one.
Jathan South has been a very impactful player, as he rushed for 105 yards and earned a touchdown in their win over Southwest Valley. South has rushed for a team-high 933 yards and reached a team-high in touchdowns with 13. He is a player who commands the offense and makes smart decisions on the field. Jathan has only passed for 247 yards this season on seven completions, but he continues with the success of the rushing game.
Another impactful player as of late has also been Mike Fuller as he rushed for 178 yards and earned two touchdowns last week. Fuller has rushed for a total of 794 yards and is second on the team behind South in touchdowns with 12. He has been in and out of practice tending to his ankle and it has only helped the junior when it comes down to playing an elite role in the last few games.
This week, Mount Ayr is back in town as the Chargers just took on the Raiders a few weeks ago and ACGC came out on top 42-18. All of Mount Ayr’s 18 points came in the first half of action as ACGC held the Raiders scoreless in the second half of play. The Chargers had over 400 rushing yards and look to take on the young Mount Ayr team once again underneath the Friday night lights in playoff action.
Mount Ayr will have to stop the rushing game of ACGC, but the Chargers continue to charge forward in their offensive game. There are a few players who will have to step up other than Fuller and South so that the game plan of the Chargers can go in the right direction.
ACGC takes on Mount Ayr tomorrow with a kickoff at 7:00 p.m. KSOM 96.5 will be live on the broadcast with Zach Collins and Austin West on the call. The pregame show starts at 6:30 p.m. and you can also find the game audio streaming on Western Iowa Today.
