(Corning, IA) – Southwest Valley tried to hold on tight last week in their game against IKM-Manning, but unfortunately with the endurance of the Wolves, they were not able to hold through as they fell 45-7. After multiple injuries this season, Southwest Valley has been trying a quick-tempo offense to try to get the offense into a better position.
With multiple injuries down the line for the Timberwolves, the underclassmen are getting a chance to show what they’re made of. Gavin Wetzel has stepped into a defensive role this season as he had a team-leading nine tackles against IKM-Manning. The offense has also shown growth in Wyatt Mendenhall as he threw for 101 yards last week but is out this upcoming Friday due to a concussion.
Southwest Valley continues with the next-man-up mentality as they are looking to finish out the season on a high note.
This week, the Timberwolves are going to be taking on ACGC in a district matchup. ACGC is currently undefeated this season and averages 362 rushing yards per game as they primarily have relied on the rush this season, just like every season previously. Southwest Valley sees this game as another opportunity to go out and play to the best of their ability.
In terms of improvements, Coach Longabaugh is looking for his team to play to the end of the whistle and work on group tackling. The stressor is to keep ACGC in order and rely on not just one defender, but the whole team to make the essential plays.
Southwest Valley will take on #7 ACGC at home tomorrow with a kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
