(Creston) Creston and Nevada will play for the district lead on Friday night in a week eight game at Creston. The Panthers have run the table so far this season and enter the game with a 7-0 record. The Cubs are 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Creston Head Coach Brian Morrison says the team goal has been to improve as a team, and he says they have done that from week one to week eight.
Coach Morrison says one big challenge on Friday will be containing all-state running back Cason Stevenson, who has rushed for 1,143 yards, for a 9.3 yards per carry average, and 12 touchdowns. His longest this season was 79 yards.
Nevada has proven they can pass and run the rock. The Cubs have 1,161 yards passing and 1,526 yards rushing. Stevenson is the main ballcarrier, with two outstanding receivers in Jacob Khounsourath and Kyle Kingsbury. The duo has combined for over 1,000 yards receiving.
The Panthers have explosive capabilities on offense, with Cael Turner at quarterback and Brennan Hayes in the backfield. Creston has thrown for 1,846 yards rushing and 1,426 yards passing.
Speaking of special teams, both teams have capable punters. Creston punter Cael Turner averages 41 yards per punt, Riley Murphy averages 45 yards per punt, and Mason Herrold, who has taken most of the snaps, averages 34 yards per kick.
Creston has Nevada and Perry left on the schedule. Nevada plays Creston and Atlantic.
