(Walnut) At least six fire departments responded to a soybean field fire north of Walnut on Saturday afternoon. Mutual aid with the Walnut Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly after 1:00 p.m. near 540th and Timber Road. The Iowa Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control while firefighters, tractors, and disks controlled the fire. There is no word at this time on what started the fire.
The National Weather Service has issued a high to very high fire danger this afternoon and evening. High to very high fire dangers may be re-issued again on Sunday for Southwest and west central Iowa. There could be some relief from the dry conditions in this region on Tuesday, with a chance for strong thunderstorms.
