(Anita, IA) – CAM earned a 64-6 win tonight over Sidney by dominating on both the offensive and defensive ends. The Cougars had a total of nine touchdowns and saw their first two kicked extra points of the season by Kegan Croghan.
CAM started off the game by putting pressure on the Cowboys early. The Cougars moved the ball so well, that they had five touchdowns in the first quarter alone. Both CAM’s Colin Bower and Austin Williams had two touchdowns in the first quarter each. After the first quarter, the Cougars were shutting out the Cowboys, and they didn’t stop there. CAM added on two more touchdowns in the second quarter as Brody Paulsen rushed in for a touchdown while Ryan Bower had a receiving touchdown to put the Cougars up 51-0 at halftime.
Scoring slowed in the second half as the Cougars added on just two touchdowns. CAM’s Kegan Croghan earned an interception on a pick-six downfield for a touchdown to put the Cougars up 58-0 to end the third quarter. The fourth quarter added on another Cougars’ touchdown as Makade Paulsen was taking the snaps for the majority of the fourth quarter and had a quarterback sneak for a touchdown. It looked like the Cougars were going to win 64-0, but Sidney was not stopping there. On the Cowboys’ last drive with just 12 seconds left, Sidney’s Tate Mount threw a deep pass to Braeden Godfried to get a first-down and a big gain. The Cowboys had just four seconds left, took a snap, and Mount connected with Godfried once again to get the lone touchdown for Sidney. The final score of the game was CAM over Sidney 64-6.
CAM held Sidney to just 108 total yards with 112 yards passing and one touchdown. Michael Hensley was the leading rusher for 13 yards on 19 carries. Tate Mount had 91 passing yards going 5-15 and earned a touchdown with two interceptions. Braeden Godfried was the leading receiver with three receptions for 88 yards and one touchdown.
In terms of stats for CAM, Chase Spieker led in the passing game going 8-9 for 132 yards and four touchdowns. The leading rusher was Austin Williams as he had five rushes for 47 yards and one touchdown. Brody Paulsen had six receptions for 26 yards and one touchdown while Chase Speiker added a rushing touchdown of his own and rushed for 12 yards. Makade Paulsen was able to add his touchdown after the quarterback sneak for seven yards. In the receiving game, CAM’s Colin Bower had four receptions for 54 yards and two touchdowns which led the Cougars overall. Austin Williams was right behind him with just one reception for 45 yards and one touchdown. Finishing things off in the scoring game was Ryan Bower as he had one reception for a touchdown on a 13-yard completion.
CAM is currently undefeated on the season with a 6-0 record for the Cougars and looks to take on district-opponent Fremont Mills next week at home. CAM will be a hard team to stop for the remainder of the season. Sidney will travel to Stanton in another district matchup next Friday night.
