(Iowa City, IA) – The #24 Iowa Hawkeyes (3-1) earn their first loss of the season to #7 Penn State (4-0) as they fall 31-7. This is the first time since 2000 that the Hawkeyes were shut out in a game.
Iowa’s defense was able to hold the Nittany Lions to under 390 yards, but the defense had not allowed 350 yards or fewer in 13 of the last 16 games and continues to not allow 400 more yards in 16 consecutive games. Defensively, Iowa had only allowed 14 or fewer points in 11 of its last 16 games, dating back to the start of the 2022 season which was broken yesterday against Penn State. Penn State is 18-14 overall in the series and 12-11 after Penn State joined the Big Ten in 1993.
Starting with Penn State’s stats, Drew Allar went 25-37 for 166 yards and four touchdowns. Kaytron Allen rushed for 77 yards on 21 carries while he was followed by Beau Pribula and Nicholas Singleton who combined for 108 rushing yards. In the receiving game, KeAndrew Lambert-Smith had eight receptions for 66 yards and had a touchdown. Theo Johnson had six looks and had 42 receiving yards. Khalil Dinkins had one reception for nine yards and one touchdown while Tyler Warren had two receptions for nine yards and two touchdowns. Leading defensively was Abdul Carter who had three tackles followed by Demeioun Robinson with two tackles and a sack. Amin Vanover and Adisa Isaac also earned an interception to top off their stats.
Continuing with the losing Iowa Hawkeyes, Cade McNamara threw 5-14 for 42 yards and was sacked twice in the game. Kamari Moulton rushed for 19 yards while Leshon Williams rushed for 10, both on six carries. Erick All had three receptions for 35 yards while Diante Vines had one reception for 14 yards. Jay Higgins was the leading tackler with 18 total tackles followed by Nick Jackson with 13 total tackles. No Iowa player recorded a sack in the entirety of the game.
Iowa will look ahead as they will take on Michigan State at Kinnick Stadium with a kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
