(Greenfield, IA) – Nodaway Valley is currently 0-2 on the season after their week two loss to Central Decatur 23-0. The defense was able to keep the Wolverines in the game as they had a rough week one and a much smoother week two. Carmine Shaw had 13.5 total tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss in the game alongside Ashton Honnold as he had 5.5 tackles in the game to add to the stat sheet as well.
Trent Warner also contributed to the defensive game for the Wolverines as he had the lone sack of the game and the only sack for the Wolverines in the first two games this season. He also had six tackles and one tackle for loss in the game against Central Decatur. Coach Honnold likes his defensive abilities on the field, even if it doesn’t show statistically.
Nodaway Valley is working with some younger players on the varsity field this season. They are looking to build off the offense and get better overall with such a young team. There is a lot to settle and get comfortable with these next few weeks before district play opens up at the end of the month.
With a week three game against Shenandoah, Nodaway Valley is looking to make the Mustangs struggle in the pocket as they rely heavily on their passing game. Coach Honnold trusts that his defense will get the job done, and knows that the offense will not be far behind, helping in the pack to get the rhythm flowing against Shenandoah.
The Mustangs will travel to Greenfield to take on the Wolverines at Nodaway Valley High School under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
