(Harlan, IA) – The Harlan Cyclones look ahead after last Friday’s loss against Lewis Central 21-20. Last season, the Cyclones lost their first game to Lewis Central and won every game after, including a Class 3A State Championship against Mount Vernon. Harlan is looking to replicate that success this season by improving from week one to week two. Coach Bladt has been improving the technique of his athletes and looks to bring those improvements against Denison-Schleswig tonight.
The Cyclones had two throwing touchdowns in their last competition against Lewis Central as Will Arkfeld went 11-24 for 89 yards and two interceptions. They also earned a defensive touchdown after Matthew Sorfonden swiped an interception and ran to the endzone for a twelve-yard touchdown. The senior also had eight total tackles and was a big defensive presence on the night. The Cyclones played well, but are looking to improve the lines and the effort in week two.
Harlan is starting nine new players on defense this season and with the inexperience, comes the little mistakes. Coach Bladt is having his defense focus on trusting one another and playing gap sound so they can get the job done.
Week one comes with mistakes, as Harlan had mistakes on the defensive line and on special teams. If these corrections are made early, the team will benefit down the stretch in tonight’s ballgame.
Harlan will travel to take on Denison-Schleswig tonight with a kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
