(Atlantic) Atlantic Schools Superintendent Beth Johnsen discussed the district-wide theme for the 2023-2024 school year.
Johnsen, who took over the superintendent’s job on July 1, says she likes to think about the big picture. “The district-wide theme is Trojan Community,” said Johnsen. “We formed a theme team, pulled some people in, talked about different things, and came up with Trojan Community, emphasizing “unity.”
One of the first unifiers starts on Fridays. “On Friday, everyone wears Trojan gear within the school district, including all Pre-K12 students,” said Johnsen. “The PTO is working on getting t-shirts for all elementary students that cannot afford them. The idea is we are all about looking like Trojans. Community members are buying in as well, and they will also be wearing Trojan gear on Friday.
“The idea is to help our students learn how to be good citizens in our community,” said Johnsen. “We have to model it, practice it with them, and teach them how to be good community members within their own school. When they leave school, through their experience will know what it is like to lead in their own communities.”
School Starts in Atlantic on Wednesday.
