(Guthrie Center) A child died when struck by an SUV while backing out of a driveway in Guthrie County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 9:38 a.m. on Saturday at 2496 170th Street.
According to the report, 45-year-old Shane Ellis was backing a 2002 Chevy SUV out of a private drive when a 6-year-old male child entered the blind spot and was struck by the right rear tire of the SUV.
The driver performed life-saving measures until rescue personnel arrived at the scene. The boy was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
