Lawna Lee Brumley, the son of Lonnie L. and Georgia (Nicks) Brumley, was born March 2, 1932, in Falcon, MO. Lee died August 5, 2023, at his home in Carson, IA, at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 3 days.
Lee attended country school and then high school in Lebanon, MO. In 1948, the family moved to Elliott, IA, where Lee attended school until the middle of his senior year, when his family moved to Carson, IA. He graduated from Carson High School with the class of 1949. Lee entered the army in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was in the Army Engineers and operated a Caterpillar for his year in Korea. After being discharged, he went to Portland, OR, where he worked near the Columbia River. He returned to Iowa in the fall of 1954 to help his father farm.
Lee and Betty Forristall were married June 19, 1955. To this union four children were born: Linda Sue, Robert Lee, Lawna Lee, Jr., and Daniel Dean.
Lee was a farmer for 47 years and ran a trucking company. He enjoyed hauling flowers for Dallas Johnson Greenhouse and hauling grain locally. Lee was a member of the Carson United Methodist Church, Carson Legion Post 556, and the V.F.W. in Oakland.
Lee is preceded in death by his daughter Linda Sue; son Lawna Lee Jr., daughter-in-law Joell Brumley; his parents; brother Dean; and sisters, Lois Fichter and Shirley Gilpin.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Brumley of Carson, IA; his sons, Robert (Christine) and Daniel (Paula); grandson Jason (Jill); granddaughter Jennifer; great grandson Nolan; brother Homer; sisters-in-law, Annie Mae Brumley, Jeri Brumley, JoAnne Weaver, Judith Fantry, Janet Fossek; and many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
A funeral service for Lee will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at the Carson United Methodist Church in Carson. Visitation with the family will take place on Wednesday, from noon until 2:00 PM, at the Carson United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Carson United Methodist Church, Carson Legion Post 556, or the Carson Fire Department. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
