(Audubon) The Audubon County Board of Supervisors continues to discuss adding the wording in the supervisor’s handbook for carrying weapons. Supervisor Chairman Doug Sorensen says there is not a lot of specific language in the supervisor’s handbook regarding employees carrying weapons in the courthouse.
Sorensen says the discussion centers on the specificity of the language in the policy. He says they are researching other counties, consulting the county attorney and insurance to help them decide how the language will be interpreted.
In other business, Taya Vonnahme from the Manning Recovery Center appeared in front of the supervisors this morning to propose using some of the county’s Opioid settlement money to pay for drug and alcohol prevention. Sorensen says most funds are used for drug treatment, not prevention.
Audubon County received $17,000 from the settlement and will receive $93,000 divvied to the county over the next 15 years.
Next week’s Audubon County Board of Supervisors meeting has been moved from Tuesday, July 4, to Wednesday, July 5.
