A memorial service for 66-year-old John Edgar “Shorty” Koenig will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at the Griswold Community Building. Visitation with the family will be one hour before the memorial service. The interment will be at Noble Center Cemetery at a later date. Instead of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family. John Edgar “Shorty” Koenig, the son of John Duane and Mildred Pearl (Livengood) Koenig, was born September 19, 1956, in Council Bluffs, IA. He died May 28, 2023, in Oklahoma City, OK.
Ed attended school in Griswold, graduating from Griswold High School with the class of 1975. After graduating, he worked at American Builders as a welder for several years and hauled livestock for Marvin Pelzer. He began full-time trucking in 1980 and spent most of his career as an owner/operator.
Ed loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He considered his residence as anywhere in the lower 48 states.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents.
Ed is survived by: Dianna Butcher and husband Corey of State Center, IA; Janet Huff of Urbandale, IA; Dale Koenig and wife Joy of Knoxville, IA; and his nieces and nephews. Many other relatives and friends also survive him.
