John Edgar “Shorty” Koenig, the son of John Duane and Mildred Pearl (Livengood) Koenig, was born September 19, 1956, in Council Bluffs, IA. He died May 28, 2023, in Oklahoma City, OK, at the age of 66 years, 8 months, and 9 days.
Ed attended school in Griswold, graduating from Griswold High School with the class of 1975. After graduating, he worked at American Builders as a welder for several years, while also hauling livestock for Marvin Pelzer. He began full time trucking in 1980, and spent most of his career as an owner/operator.
Ed loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He considered his residence as anywhere in the lower 48 states.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his siblings: Dianna Butcher and husband Corey of State Center, IA, Janet Huff of Urbandale, IA, and Dale Koenig and wife Joy of Knoxville, IA; and his nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at the Griswold Community Building. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the memorial service. Interment will be at Noble Center Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
