(Atlantic) Memorial services were held nationwide today, remembering those who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Pastor Lauri Boysen of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Atlantic leads off the Memorial Day Service at the Atlantic Cemetery.
The keynote speaker was Alan Cranston, a 1956 Atlantic High School Graduate. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956 at 17, and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1975. Alan Cranston flew in three Navy Squadrons, almost 6,000 hours, and was awarded 12 air medals, a Navy Commendation Medal, and many more.
Alan Cranston says the total of American lives lost in all wars is around 1.4 million.
