Allan Glenn Havick, son of Glenn and Alice (Best) Havick was born May 31, 1941 in Harlan, Iowa. Allan grew up on the family farm east of Tennant, Iowa, where he enjoyed riding and breaking horses. He was baptized and confirmed at the Tennant Methodist Church. He attended Tennant Schools graduating from Tennant High School with the class of 1959.
On November 1, 1959 Allan was united in marriage to Myrna Benson in Irwin, Iowa. Four sons came from this union: Bret, Shane, Shay, and Shawn. Allan established the Rafter H Ranch and was respected worldwide as a breeder of pure bred Red Angus and Simmental cattle. Allan received numerous awards for his cattle including Shelby County Cattleman of the year in 1980.
Allan retired in 2012 and moved to Harlan with his partner of 30 years, Marie Lindon. He continued to share his love and knowledge of cattle by networking with other cattlemen and ranchers and attending cattle auctions. Allan also enjoyed watching the stock market and old westerns.
Allan passed away peacefully in his home in Harlan on Sunday, May 21, 2023 attaining the age of eighty-one years, eleven months, and twenty-one days. He was preceded in death his parents and sons Bret, Shay, and Shawn.
He is survived by his partner Marie Lindon of Harlan, Iowa; son Shane (Deb) Havick of Harlan; daughter-in-law LaDonna Havick of Harlan; sister Connie (Frank) Paul of Persia, Iowa; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
All services are private. The Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan is in charge of arrangements.
